1) BOX - Bike boxes come in hard or soft cases. Depending on the extent of your travels, sometimes a card board bike box will do as well. |
2) TOOLS - Helpful tools: pedal wrench, allen wrenches, a cloth, plastic bags, zip ties, |
3) PEDALS - Begin by removing pedals with a pedal wrench. Remember that pedals unscrew in opposite direction of pedaling. | 4) Pack your pedals and pedal wrench in a cloth or bag to avoid scratching your frame. |

| 9) Place wheels and skewers on the side for the moment. Remember to re-attach the skewer ends together. | 10) Replace the skewer with a temporary bolt and screw in the wheel drop outs, front and back. | 11) They hold the frame in place during travel, resisting any pressure put on the fork and derailleur. | 12) HANDLEBARS – With an allen wrench, loosen screws and carefully pull the handlebars out of the stem, keeping the cables attached. |

| 13) FRAME – Lay the frame flat, chain ring side up, on top the first layer of cushion, turning the handlebars to one side. | 14) Remove the rear derailleur with a 5mm allen wrench and let sit next to frame, still attached by chain. Wrap in bubble wrap or cloth. | 15) Around frame, carefully lay your tools, pedals, skewers (wrapped in soft material like a cloth or bag), bike shoes--and helmet, if it fits. Lay the middle layer of cushion on top. | 16) Next, lay the wheels down, but be sure to lay the cassette side up of the rear wheeel. Place the final layer of cushion on the wheels and lay the final hard cover on top. |
| 13a) If you are using a cardboard box to pack your bike, you will want to wrap the derailleur in bubble wrap for extra protection. | 14a) Card board box users will carefully lower the frame into the box vertically. | 15a) Card board box users must carefully layer the items from the bottom of the box in spaces around the frame. Wrap the items in cloth. | 16a) Most standard card board boxes will allow enough space to pack one set of wheels with the frame. |
